skills for today's world of work. A wide range of employability
skills is essential to continued competitiveness and growth in highly
competitive, global markets.
When you sign
up, you'll be guided through four sections:
- Evaluating
Your Attitudes Towards Work is a self-exploration module in
which aptitude tests help you assess your attitude toward work
and the work environment.
- The Employability
Skills Self-Assessment is an evaluation of the Fundamental,
Personal Management, and Teamwork skills identified by The Conference
Board of Canada as being important to employers. More comprehensive
assessments are also available at your discretion. You'll assess
your current skills and identify those that need further development,
which are then incorporated into a Skills Development Action Plan.
- The Skills
Development Action Plan takes the skills you identify as needing
improvement or development, and allows you to set up your own
personal action plans. You'll get tips on everything from setting
achievable goals to solving problems.
- Marketing
Yourself builds on the lessons learnt in the previous three
sections. With a solid understanding of what employability skills
are - including personal attitudes - and their value to employers,
you'll be guided through the process of selling your skills by:
- researching
sources of job leads
- preparing
an appropriate résumé
- responding
to job ads
- creating
effective cover letters
- managing
and maintaining references
- networking
- understanding
the entire interview process, including preparation and debriefing
- and finally,
starting - and keeping - the job!
