Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is it necessary for me to work with a Supporter or Mentor
as I work through the site?
A. It's not necessary, but we recommend that you do in order
to gain the most benefit from the site. There's nothing like
having someone "in your corner" who will encourage
you, support you and provide you with feedback. And sometimes
there can be a "disconnect" between your self-perception
and how others see you. When it comes to work and employability,
you need to have an outside perspective to know whether your
fundamental, personal management and teamwork skills are truly
competent. Make sure that you read our Choosing
a Supporter/Mentor link to ensure that you are engaging
an appropriate supporter or mentor!
Q. I know that the website is "self-paced". What
does this mean exactly?
A. The website is set up so that the Assessments in Sections
1 and 2 only show you a few questions at a time. Once you
answer a set of questions, you click on the "Submit"
button for the answers to be saved in the database behind
the website, which then enables you to move on to the next
set of questions. If you need to leave the website while in
the middle of an assessment, you have the option of finishing
the current set of questions, clicking on the "Submit"
button and then interrupting your session for an indefinite
period of time by clicking on the "Log-out" link.
The database will save whatever you have done to that point,
so that when you next log back onto the site, you'll be directed
to where you left off and can continue as if you'd never left!
Q. What do the "Save", "Print" and "Share"
links do?
A. When you are working on your Skills Development Action
Plan or on the Challenge/Outcome exercises, you have the options
of saving your work on the database behind the website, printing
out what you have done, or "sharing" your file with
your supporter/mentor.
